Tips for great posts

1. Remember your audience! Who are you writing for? You? Other parents? Many of our club members are the actual players! Try to set the tone so that it can be [mostly] understood by the age group you are writing for.
2. People read slower on-screen and 'scan' the page rather than read line for line, like they would on a printed page. So:
   • Keep your report succinct; a rule of thumb is to edit to around 50%-75% the length of any printed format.
   • Use short paragraphs and make one point per paragraph.
3. Use a 'conversational' tone:
   • Not clipped, but not too adjective-rich. Just the facts please!
   • Use the 'active' voice: ie. "Jonny kicked the goal." not "The goal was kicked by Jonny."
4. Use the journalist's 'inverted pyramid' structure. Begin with the conclusion: eg. the score, one or two key moments, best on the field. Then go into greater detail in succeeding paragraphs.
5. Be objective! Try not to use the term 'we'.
6. Please, players' first names only, for privacy reasons.
