Volunteering

Parent volunteers are the lifeblood of our club.

If you are interested in any of the team positions below, please speak to your team manager or the club secretary.

The club needs parent volunteers to carry out a range of roles that ensure that everything operates as smoothly as possible, giving your children a safe and happy introduction to the game of rugby.

There are many different ways that you can help out and parental support will help spread the workload evenly at all of the club activities.

Team roles

• Coaches

  At least one, but ideally two per team, possessing coaching qualifications or willing to undertake training.
  Needs: Enthusiasm, energy, belief in the potential of each child, communication skills.

• Team manager

  Responsible for liaising between team parents and the coach and club; keeping the match record book; organising the oranges/jersey washing roster; encouraging parents to assist as refs, line runners, field marshalls; perhaps organise parent get-togethers and team break-ups; generally being the ‘people person’ of the team.
  Needs:Enthusiasm, organisation skills, people skills, a happy disposition.

• Referees

  At least one, but ideally two per team (especially in U6–10), possessing refereeing qualifications or willing to undertake training.
  Needs:A love of the finer points of rugby, self-belief and a thick skin!

• Touch judges

  At least one, but ideally two per team (especially in U6-10), possessing game official qualifications or willing to undertake training.
  Needs: Energy and fairmindedness.

• Field marshall

  At least one per team to ensure that spectators respect the spectators’ code of conduct and don’t encroach on the field.
  No special skills required. Training given.

• Ground set up/dismantle

  Someone to place the cones marking the edges of the field for the appropriate age group.
  Needs: Energy, punctuality and a copy of the field layout guide.

• Canteen/caravan

  Every team will be rostered to staff the canteen and caravan on Friday nights and game days. This is one of the club’s main fundraising opportunities and so it is vital that all parents help out when rostered. If you are unable to help when you are rostered on, it is your responsibility to find someone else from your team to replace you.
  Needs: Energy and club spirit.

• Event helper

  People willing to help out at carnival days with things like selling drinks or raf?e tickets, cooking sausage sizzles, setting up playing fields and equipment.
  Needs: Energy, enthusiasm and club spirit.
