EJ School Fair

Friday, June 25th, 2010

The Eagle Junction School Fair was a great success with a huge Norths sign up on the main stage giving the club some good exposure.

Norths also had a stall with Will Genia posters that we gave away and there were footballs to throw through the target to help generate interest.

A special thank you to all the boys that wore their Norths gear and helped out on the stall on the Day. It helped to generate 25 registrations of interest for next year and an approach from another School wanting Norths to host a stall at their fete later in the year.

President’s report

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

Last weekend I acted as the Club Official required at competition games. It was an opportunity to see our younger players in action. One U7 team seemed to stand out for their sheer vigour and enthusiasm.

At half-time the coach used all of his experience and knowledge about the psychology of 7 year olds by getting them to stand in a closed small circle and place hands at the centre. Loudly, he called “Now, a big fat ….NORTHS”. The boys responded in perfect harmony, not with …NORTHS…. but the full score; “a Big Fat Norths”.

The incident reminded me why, every weekend, we dash around with our young players. It is to support them to learn values such as teamwork, and ultimately to become good men and citizens.

The power of rugby lays in it its capacity to help young people to understand themselves and others; to learn about fairness; to compete with dignity; and to develop good habits which become virtues. Rugby also allows us to begin to answer one of the key questions for the 21st century: How can we work better together? These overarching goals do nothing to detract from the goals of enjoyment and fun of the game.

During the week, our Registrar and former President, Kerry Partridge resigned. We are very grateful to Kerry for steering the Club over the past two years. The new Registrar will be appointed at the Management Committee Meeting next Wednesday evening 9th June. In the meantime, Emma (Babao) will act as Registrar. While on the item of members of the Management Committee, I want to say that your current hard-working committee is as good as you will get in any club. I am indeed very grateful for the endless hours they put into the Club. You are welcome to join us especially in the new developments and club structures.

Finally, you will have noted the drive by the Management Committee to ensure all players are registered and have paid their fees for 2010. The Club is required by law to exercise a duty of care; fees pay for insurance, competition levies and other costs. Without this payment the Club cannot operate. Hence, the policy: “No pay. No play”. So if you haven’t addressed this matter yet please give it your urgent attention.

Yours in Rugby,

Leo Bartlett
President, NBJRU

Rugby extravaganza

Congratulations to the Harvey and Lutton families who are neck and neck for the book sellers prize of one silver family ticket to the Wallabies V Ireland.

Keep up the great work. Only a very small number of books (17) have been returned so please make a mighty effort and return tickets to us preferably by 4 June for drawing on 11 June. All tickets must be returned sold or unsold. This is a major fundraiser for the club.

Please get behind it.

The tickets have been selling well to opposition team supporters at our home games. Please come and get more tickets if you wish. Volunteers to sell the tickets at the Seniors home games on Saturday would also be welcome. If you can help out see Linda Ray on Friday at training.

Hot meals and the big screen DVD for kids
