New rules for 2009

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

There are some new game rules for this year.

In short, Under 8s will play Mini rules, Under 10s will play Midi rules and Under 12s will play Under 19 law variations with the exception that they will not lift in the line out.

A copy of the Brisbane Junior Rugby Union Competition Rules and Annexures can be forwarded to you if you are interested.

Special sessions will be conducted for coaches and team managers so that the changes can be completely understood.

Improving the skills of coaches and officials

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

The club recently received a grant from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Recreation to improve the skills of our coaches and officials.

In partnership with the Queensland Rugby Union, the club has the opportunity for our volunteer coaches at all levels and age groups to undertake certificate courses to either obtain their initial credentials or jump to the next level.

Courses are run throughout the year so we will be advising interested parents who are interested in developing their skills when and where the courses are and paying for the accreditation where it is required.

More information and dates will be on the website when available.

The money can also be spent on first aid and/or sports medicine training. So if anyone is interested in gaining this kind of skill, please let us know as soon as possible. First aid competency is a great thing to have at any time, so this is a good opportunity to gain this most critical skill.

Norths and the Shaw Road grounds

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

This time last year, the club was waiting to see what would happen to our facilities with the demise of Shawsportz.

With that well and truly finished, Norths (both the juniors and seniors) are now hiring the facility direct from the Brisbane City Council.

We pay as we use the grounds and the clubhouse on hourly basis.

The senior club has applied for a liquor licence to run the clubhouse bar (any money that we spend across the bar, we will get back!) and we have already made some additions to the building to make it more user-friendly.

If you have any ideas or suggestions in this regard, or you have skills that we might be able to use (like electricians, plumbers, architects etc), please let a member of the committee know.

What this all means is that the clubhouse is heading back to the control of Norths Rugby. We are not there yet. There’s a lot more discussion to take place with the stakeholders but for the time being, we can optimise the use of the grounds and the clubhouse and create a football club that we can all be proud of.

With your help, Shaw Road will be the best place in Brisbane to play and watch rugby!
