Thanks, from the President

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

A big ‘thank you’ to all the mums and dads who volunteered their time over the weekend. The barbeque was extremely busy on Friday night and the day was long and hot on Sunday for all.

To the Team Managers, Water Runners and Coaches –thank you for your valuable contribution to the club.

We are still looking for more parents who can help us with different jobs around the club. The under 11s are still without two Coaches and Managers.

Remember, we can offer you training and support if you decide that you can help in these roles. I really do believe that you get out of something what you put into it, so if you even think that you can contribute, please contact one of the committee members.

Sponsors, thank you

I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome Queensland Envelopes Pty Ltd to the list of club sponsors for 2009. David Kearns (U16 and U9 dad) has once again supported the Junior Eagles, joining Baker and Staff Painters, Richardson and Wrench Commercial Real Estate, Spatial Concepts and 3Guys.com.au.

New jerseys

All fingers are crossed for the arrival of our long-awaited new jerseys. We have planned a Uniform Night this Friday (20 March).

Please have a look at the roster for collection. Your patience is appreciated as we try to get uniforms to over 300 players! If you could be on time and work with the team assisting on Friday, that would be most helpful!

Congratulations Ted Hunter

Congratulations to Ted Hunter, immediate past President and longtime Norths member. Ted has been voted on to the Queensland Junior Rugby Union management committee. The aim of the QJRU is to provide a safe, enjoyable environment for children playing the great game of Rugby across the state.

We look forward to hearing more from Ted over the coming months about the sport and its future.

BBQ

I trust that you are taking full advantage of the barbeque on Friday nights. It’s nice to know that all money raised at the barbeque and across the bar on training nights goes immediately back into the club for investment into the members.

We need the cash turnover that these provide, especially in this early part of the year. And as the year progresses, we’ll try a few different ‘menus’, so keep supporting the team that puts barbie together for us each week.

Scott: work harder!

Can I take time to acknowledge the work of Scott Chapman (U8 dad); the club’s new Registrar. I think his is the toughest job in the club – registering and placing over 400 kids into teams, keeping in mind sibling alignment, player’s abilities and keeping teams together whenever possible.

It’s often a thankless task so thanks Scott…great job!

Senior cousins

The senior club Premier team has had some big wins in their Country Cup matches. Last weekend saw them almost score a ’ton’ against Townsville. The Premier League starts on Saturday 28 March, with Chris Roche’s mighty Eagles taking on Souths.

Of course, everyone is welcome to the Saturday games. Check the Norths Eagles website for game details.

Coaches and managers get together

There will be a compulsory meeting for all Team Managers and Coaches at the clubhouse soon. There’s a lot to discuss so even if you have been fulfilling these roles for a long time, please attend the meeting. I’ll get the details out to you in the Tag to Tackle newsletter.

First Aid courses

Also coming up will be the first of our free First Aid courses. With a state government grant, we are able to offer mums and dads free courses in first aid and sports medicine – really handy skills to have at home and at the club.

Rugby fun days

And we are putting together some Rugby Fun Days over the Easter school holidays. Open to all junior players and their friends, the fun days will be full of footy activity and games. More details will be available shortly, but keep at least two days free during the school break!

Yours in Rugby
