2008 President’s report

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

I acknowledge the out going committee for its tireless efforts and the contribution of our coaches, managers, trainers, parents and supporters.

I thank the players officials and sponsors and those BBQ conveners, Ann Myer and Linda Ray.

The senior club and the Bustard Eagles, Michael Rice and Association and in particular Cathy McLennan.

There will be challenges for the 2009 season and new playing rules for our mid age groups. These challenges will include:

  • increasing our player participation
  • the continuation of the provision of a safe playing environment
  • the constant search for the saving of costs
  • increasing the committee participation
  • the perpetual cycle of re-educating the committee, coaches and officials of the constant changes
  • expanding our involvement with the senior club
  • maintaining our working relationships with the other clubs in our region in order to strengthen rugby on the Brisbane north side
  • developing the participation of girls in rugby
  • working with the Brisbane City Council in developing our facility and building a solid financial base and structure for the next 5 years

The highlights were:

  • all teams able to participate in finals did, with the U15’s Blue carrying the flag.
  • the support for our fundraising
  • the selection of some of our players in representative teams
  • the Lang Park appearances by some of our juniors
  • the Irish luck of Jonathan Cookson and his wife.
  • the hosting of the U12’s selection trial with thanks to the Bustard Eagles
  • the friendships formed and the interest displayed by our senior players in our older boys training

Off the field we were successful in obtaining some grants for equipment and training.

Also a heart felt thank you to the seniors for there participation on trophy day, at training and their advice.
